I'm sure that the rear-view mirror of history will one day give us a sanitized and dampened view of the tragedy that has just taken place. For those of us living in the nightmarish present, we might as well be buring in the fires of hell or choking on the smell of rot on Golgotha.
I haven't prayed in a long time, but I pray to the creator that this large set back in the development of American identity and morality will eventually be righted --simply because the human race must continue to 'evolve'...or else destroy itself.
Yes, i am talking about Bush. 'Betcher-bottom- dollar I am talking about the senseless war that will now rage on. More pertinently, I am talking about the fact that huge blocks of our population would allow discrimination to taint the U.S. constitution (Ban on Gay Marriage passes in 11 states). Below is an excerpt from an interview with actress Michelle Clunie of 'Queer As Folk' fame. She may not be a mouthpiece for the revolution, but her answer is so simple and so elegant that it cannot fail to evoke reason out of a dumb rock:
***********************************************
INTERVIEWER: What do you think of the whole gay marriage issue?
MICHELLE CLUNIE: In my mind, I live in a world where it shouldn't even be an issue. I can't even imagine that people are so up in arms against people who love each other getting married. I can't even wrap my head around it. I find it strange that our government has no problem sending innocent young men and women to war, but God forbid they should allow people to marry who they love. It just doesn't make sense. It's like they support hate and fear and crime and killing, but they don't support love.
INTERVIEWER: What do you think of Bush's constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage?
MICHELLE CLUNIE: Well, if I get started on Bush, I may never stop. I think that we have to get this man out of the White House before the world blows up. I think that right now that should be the focus of every human being who cares about the world. ******************************************************
Well Michelle, I guess it's time to build a nuclear bunker a-la-PAtsy-and-Edina in 'Ab Fab.' Our re- elected president has a penchant for whiz-bang politicking and shoot-now-ask-the-dead foreign policy.
